We've all been there. You need to focus on who you are and where you want to be. Instead, you're just kind of... running. You may be running from your past, or you may be running toward your future. But either way, you need to figure out who you are in the present moment. And that can be tough.
Recently, I took a trip to Sedona, and as stepping away typically does, I got some perspective on my life. It reminds me we need to take a step back and assess our lives to move forward in a more positive direction. If you're feeling lost or stuck, I hope this blog post clarifies things for you.
Letting Go of the Past
One of the things I've been struggling with is letting go of the past. It's easy to get caught up in who we used to be and what we used to do. We hold onto these things because they have been a part of our identity for so long. But the truth is, we change and grow as human beings, and our identities shift with us. Holding onto the past can prevent us from living our best lives in the present moment.
One way I like to think about it is this: if you were driving your car and looking in the rearview mirror, would you rather see the road behind you or ahead of you? You want to see the road ahead to avoid obstacles and get to your destination safely. The same is true for life. It's important to let go of the past and focus on the present to create a bright future for ourselves.
Determining Your Direction
Once you've let go of the past, it's time to start thinking about your future. What do you want your life to be like? What are your goals and dreams? Having some direction is essential to know what steps to take next. Otherwise, you'll be drifting through life without any purpose or direction, which can feel overwhelming.
One way to determine your direction is by thinking about your values. What is important to you? What do you believe? When you know what matters most to you, it becomes easier to make decisions that align with those values. And when your actions align with your values, you'll feel more fulfilled and satisfied with your life.
Living in the Present Moment
Once you've let go of the past and determined your direction for the future, it's time to start living in the present moment. Living in the present doesn't mean that you should stop planning for the future or taking action toward your goals—it just means that you should also enjoy the ride along the way.
Life is precious, and it's happening right now, so don't miss out on all the beauty and joy surrounding you daily. Even when you are living in constant stress and anxiety, gifts are available all around you.
If you're feeling lost or stuck, know that you're not alone—we've all been there at one point or another! Hopefully, this clarifies what's been going on in your life and what steps you can take to create a bright future for yourself.
Do yourself a favor and take some time this week (even if it's just 10 minutes) to sit down with a pen and paper and brainstorm what matters most to YOU. Once you know what matters most, everything else will fall into place. ♥
Until we all feel the light, we walk in it.
