Messy hair, red, blood shot eyes, cheeks damp from tears, a forced, semi-smile. I’ve been down. Stressed out and riddled by the “haven’ts”.
I haven’t been eating well. I haven’t been creative. I haven’t been writing. I haven’t been reading. I haven’t been taking pictures. I haven’t been working enough. I haven’t spent much time in my zen zone with meditation and yoga. I’ve haven’t been as diligent with my health and physical therapy routines that keep me feeling human. I haven’t spent enough quality time with my family or friends. I haven’t...I haven’t...I haven’t...
This has been a repeating thought pattern the last several months. Months that have been really freakin hard. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually.
Even my best ‘self-care’ tactics have been falling short of relief. With my mind spinning, my body aching, and my finances frustrating. It’s been my spirituality and integrity to my health that bubbled to the surface reminding me that I need help. Like, the real professional kind.
Am I managing? Yes.
Am I progressing? Painfully slow.
Do I have a support system? Absolutely.
Am I struggling? More than I hoped.
With this awareness, I decided it was time to seek professional help. For the third time in my life, I decided to give way to my ‘I got this’ pride.
I decided my mental health had to be a priority. I have to acknowledge that while, ‘I’ve got this’, I still may actually need a supplemental hand. An energy that is new. A shift.
But how? Who?
It’s not always easy to seek help, especially of the professional variety. There’s the money and time issues. The scheduling issues and excuse after excuse, after excuse.
But, friend, sometimes it’s necessary. Sometimes we need a third (or more) perspective.
Sometimes the deepest compassion we can have for ourselves lies in knowing we can’t do this ‘alone’.
So, if you’re struggling, consider seeking some form of help. A friend, a stranger, a professional, whatever feels right. It’s ok. We can’t do this alone. We aren’t suppose to.
I support you. I’m here for you, and if you’re in the Arizona area, I’ve got a phenomenal therapist I’d love to share.
To your mental health, wise warrior.
It matters.
